Mako and Komuro will marry before the end of the year： No ceremony held, lump sum withdrawn


Mako Akishino (29) and Kei Komuro (29), whose engagement has been informally confirmed, will marry within the year, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the 1st.

 

They judged that the environment for the marriage was getting ready as Mr. Komuro was making adjustments to get a job in the state of New York in the US, according the people who were interviewed by the paper.

 

Mako's father, Prince Akishino, keeping in mind the financial troubles on Mr. Komuro's side, has been of the opinion that the engagement ceremony could not take place unless "the situation is such that many people are satisfied and happy.” In light of the fact that the situation is not necessarily conducive to the blessing of the overwhelming public, and in light of the current situation of the Corona disaster, it is being considered that the "Nousai-no-gi," which is equivalent to the traditional ceremony of tying the knot, and related ceremonies such as weddings will not be held. If the couple marries without any ceremony, it will be the first time in the post-World War II era for the Imperial Family.

 

It was also learned that Mako has expressed her intention to withdraw from receiving the lump-sum payment to be paid when she leaves the Imperial Family upon marriage, in light of criticism over the "financial troubles" surrounding the Komuro family. The government is expected to discuss whether it is legally possible for her to decline.

Mako Komuro and Kei Attend Funeral of Mako's grandfather with Akishino Family

    Tatsuhiko Kawashima, professor emeritus at Gakushuin University, father of Noriko Akishino and grandfather of Mako Komuro, died of mesothelioma on April 4 at the age of 81. Kei Komuro Fails NY State Bar Exam?
