Reported Scandals: The Japanese Will Never Accept Komuro

Bizarre English-language newspaper: Focuses only on debt problems

Is the debt problem the only problem of Komuro, Princess Mako’s boyfriend? No.

Curiously, the Western media seems to be trying to limit his problems to the debt problem. Whose intention is this?

Let's take the Japan Times, for example, one of the leading English-language newspapers in Japan. The headline "Money row tied to princess's boyfriend may end in settlement" at the end of April this year is full of congratulations.

This makes it seem as if Mako and Komuro can get married as long as they pay off their debts.

(In fact, there is no sign of a settlement at all, as you can see in this article.)

In addition, there is no report of any harsh words by the Emperor or the results of various polls.

For the Emperor's words, see here.

For the results of the public opinion poll, see here.

What is the Root of the Japanese People's Rejection?

In reality, it is not that simple. The public's distrust of Komuro and his mother is deep-rooted, as shown by public opinion polls (see poll results). This is because, in addition to the debt scandal, a wide variety of other scandals have been reported, each one of which is so horrific that any decent citizen would want to turn a blind eye to it, and because they show the dishonesty, greed, arrogance, and poor law-abiding character of Komuro and his mother, Kayo.

Some foreigners have the impression that the Japanese people are abusing Mako by not allowing her to marry freely. Some people see it as a sign of the pre-modern nature of the Japanese people. However, I would like you to know exactly why the Japanese people hate Komuro so much.

Of course, in the end, Mako's free will should be respected. But at the same time, I think that the will of the Japanese people should also be respected: "We don't want our tax money to be spent on this man, not even a single yen.

List of all reported scandals

The following is a list of scandals involving Kei Komuro and Kayo Komuro's mother and child that have been reported so far. All of the reports are not rumors or speculations, but are reliable reports with testimonies and physical evidence from the people involved.

For the reader's convenience, items related to Kei Komuro himself are shown in black, and those related mainly to Kayo Komuro (Kei's mother) are shown in red.

First, there are four major ones.

1) Kayo Komuro's (and also Kei's) unpaid debts of over 4 million yen and denial of the debts (see this article)

2) The issue of Kayo Komuro's illegal receipt of a survivor's pension of which the total amount is estimated to be 20 million yen (see this article).

3) Kayo Komuro's relationship with a former gangster. In connection with this, Kei Komuro's father and grandfather committed suicide in succession, followed by the deaths of her grandmother  (see this article).

4) Kei Komuro's bullying of his multiple classmates (see this article)

Other minor items include:

5) A colleague from the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ talks about his discomfort with Komuro, including episodes of irresponsibility and lack of communication with his colleagues.

6) Kayo Komuro is reportedly a member of the Oyama Nezu no Kai, an emerging religion. The group has been reported to have violent and suspicious deaths of its followers in the past.

7) Allegations about Fordham University that Kei was admitted and won the Martin Scholarship, a full tuition waiver awarded to the best student, despite the fact that he was not a qualified or experienced lawyer in Japan and did not have a law degree.

8) Kei's school fees from elementary school to college are too high for a single mother's child.

It's Not Just About Tax

 What do you think?

Any one of these episodes alone would make an ordinary family hesitate to marry, not only as a marriage partner for a princess but also as that for an ordinary family. And there are many of them.

Perhaps Mako will eventually marry Komuro, but it is quite predictable that their married life will be a thorny one.

If we limit the issue to the use of taxpayer money, Mako can return or donate the lump-sum marriage payment (to be detailed in another article), which is estimated to be up to 150 million yen, and have a "sober marriage" without any ceremony.

However, the people of Japan are still averse to the idea of Komuro becoming a relative of the Imperial Family. It can be said that we are far from the "situation where many people understand and accept the situation," as mentioned by His Majesty the Emperor.
