Protests against Mako and Kei Komuro's marriage march again: "We finally have a voice”.
Youtuber Kei who organized the demonstration (10th Oct.)
On the 16th, a march demonstration was held in Tokyo to oppose the
marriage of Mako (29) and Kei Komuro (30) of the Akishino family. The
demonstration was organized by Kei, an imperial family-watcher and YouTuber who
delivers imperial family news, and was the second such demonstration following the
one held on the 10th of this month.
More than 130 people attended, more than last time, and 80% were
women. Each person held a placard or a Japanese flag, such as "Imperial
Family in Crisis! Let's protect the Imperial Family," "Stop the
farce!" and other placards and the Japanese flag, and walked for 40
minutes along the 1.5 km route between Hibiya and Ginza.
The response to the previous demonstration, which took place as
Princess Mako and Mr. Komuro were about to get married on the 26th, was so
great that domestic and foreign TV stations came to cover the event on the 16th. On the
other hand, some counter-protesters appeared, calling it an "inexcusable
demonstration that undermines the honor of the royal family," and the
police kept a close eye on them in case of any unforeseen clashes.
A woman in her 70s who participated in the event said, "I am
against the marriage of the two while the allegations against the Komuro mother
and her son have not been resolved. I think this is the first time in the long
history of the Imperial Family that something like this has happened. I've been
putting up with this for a long time, but now I can finally speak out,"
she said.
On the 26th, the day of Mako's marriage and press conference, they are also planning to hold a march demonstration in Tokyo, an unusual situation that is far from a celebratory mood.
