Prince Hisahito takes the general entrance examination for Tsukuba Univ. high school
On February 13, the only son of the
Akishino family, Prince Hisahito, who had been attracting a lot of attention
for where he would go to school, took the entrance examination for Tsukuba
University High School (Tsukufu). At a little after 8:00 a.m., when the clouds
were low and heavy and the weather was bitterly cold, he passed through the
main gate of Chikuzuke High School like all the other examinees.
The exam starts at 9:00 a.m. Hisahito will
take exams in five subjects: Japanese, mathematics, English, science, and
social studies.
Recently, the head of household of Crown
Prince, the closest aide to the Akishino family, has been complaining about the
media coverage of Hisahito's entrance into high school, saying, "How is
the attitude of the media to report every week on the entrance into high school
of a minor who is about to take an entrance exam, based on speculation?” Today,
TBS, one of Japanese commercial TV station, broke the news of Hisahito's
entrance exam. It is believed that they got the go-ahead from the Imperial
Household Agency, which wanted to appeal to the public that he was taking the
general entrance examination (and not the special treatment).
For a long time, Tsukufu has been
considered to be the most promising school for Prince Hisahito. On the other
hand, it was said that instead of taking the general entrance exam, he would
use the "affiliated school admission system" between Ochanomizu
University and Tsukuba University. This system allows students who attend an
affiliated school of both universities to advance to an affiliated school of
the other university at the time of their entrance. Under this system, students
are evaluated through interviews and essays, and no academic tests are
required. Furthermore, because of the process system was established, it has
been pointed out that it is a special treatment for Prince Hisahito.
The prince's appearance at the general
entrance examination venue seemed to establish that he was not given special
treatment, but the fact that he had taken the trouble to take the entrance
examination at Tsukufu, which has a tie-up admission system with Ochanomizu
Women's University, left us feeling a little unsettled.
The results of the general examinations will be notified to the students around the 16th of this month. How will HISAHITO's result be?
