’More Private Activities are Desirable' Empress Masako: Full Text of Doctors' Opinion
On the occasion of Her Majesty the Empress Masako's 58th birthday, the Imperial Household Agency released the following doctors' opinions on her physical condition.
Her Majesty the
Empress continues to receive medical treatment based on the basic concept that
has been explained to her by the medical team.
This year, Their
Majesties the Emperor and Empress attended the memorial service for the 10th
anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake in March, the National War
Memorial Service in August, and other events in Tokyo. Due to the new
coronavirus infection, events involving visits to local areas were put on line,
but His and Her Majesty made 11 appearances, including nationwide events such
as a tree-planting festival in Shimane Prefecture, and inspection of the
reconstruction situation in the three prefectures affected by the Great East
Japan Earthquake. She supports His Majesty the Emperor and is sincerely
concerned about the various hardships the people are facing, and strives to
ensure that she has as much opportunity as possible to interact with the
people.
As for her
activities at the Imperial Palace, she has continued to enjoy her work in
sericulture, while taking sufficient care to prevent infection. Her Majesty the
Empress, as a mother, warmly watches over Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko,
who recently reached the age of majority, as she continues her studies at the university.
While Her
Majesty's activities have been restricted due to the new coronavirus infection,
and it has been difficult for Her Majesty to maintain her physical condition, we
believe it is desirable that Her Majesty is making efforts to maintain her
physical condition and continue her activities, which will lead to her
confidence.
On the other
hand, Her Majesty the Empress is still in the process of recovering from her
illness, and her physical condition has been fluctuating. Therefore, after a
major event or a series of events, she may feel tired for a while. Especially
this year, with the relocation to the Imperial Palace, her living environment
has changed completely. We hope that she will take enough time to adjust to her new life. In addition, as we have been telling you for some time, we think it is
important for her to expand the scope of her private activities while paying
close attention to the situation of the spread of the new coronavirus
infection.
It is important for Her Majesty to continue her treatment with the understanding and support of those around her, as she has done in the past, and I ask for your continued warm support.
