Wighout looking at notes, softly and warmly... Praise for HIH Princess Aiko's coming-of-age press conference: "The next Emperor of Japan"
Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko
Toshinomiya, the eldest daughter of Her Majesty the Emperor and Empress, held
her first press conference on the occasion of her coming of age on March 17,
and has received praise from all quarters.
Shosuke Tanihara, host of the TV show
"Mezamashi TV" and actor, who introduced the press conference, said,
"He put his feelings into his own words, and I can already feel, how should
I put it, the strength of his will. It was a very splendid press conference,
wasn't it?" "It was soft and warm, but I also felt a strong core of
strength, which I guess he inherited from his father and mother," he said,
describing his own impression of the press conference. She also said, "She
was not so rigid in her speech as to make no mistakes word for word, and
although there were some restatements, I could sense that she was trying to
convey her feelings directly to the audience.
Chitose Miyazaki, Fuji TV reporter in
charge of the Imperial Household Agency, who attended the press conference,
said in another program:
“The first thing I want to say is that at
the beginning of the press conference, the reporter said, 'I would like to
congratulate you on your success as an adult member of the Imperial Family.
Congratulations. I would like to hear your candid thoughts and opinions.’ Then Princess
Aiko bowed in both directions with a very soft smile, saying, 'Thank you,' and
'I look forward to working with you.’ Thus, from the beginning, I could catch a
glimpse of your initial attitude and your sincere attempt to deal with the
situation.”
In the conference, Princess Aiko said:
"I recognize that the basic and most important spirit of the Imperial
Family, which His Majesty the Emperor Emeritus has mentioned from time to time
and which has been handed down to His Majesty the Emperor, is that 'the
Imperial Family always wishes for the happiness of the people and fulfills its
duties while sharing hardships and joys with the people.” Ms.Miyazaki also commented:
“She spoke with a tightened expression
about the state of the Imperial Family. What I would like to note is that she
used the word "His Majesty the Emperor" instead of "Father"
in referring to His Majesty. At the press conference, she used the words
"His Majesty the Emperor" and "father" interchangeably,
which made me feel that Princess Aiko values His Majesty's official position
and makes a clear distinction between public and private."
Furthermore, Miyazaki was impressed by
Aiko, who continued to give precise answers for 30 minutes without looking at
any notes.
“During the 30-minute press conference,
what really struck me was Aiko's gaze. There was a script in her hand, but she
hardly looked at it. And yet, she gave very precise answers for 30 minutes.
I have mentioned before that she has an
excellent memory, having memorized the names of all the wrestlers' sons, real
names, and hometowns since she was a child. But you may be wondering how you
were able to remember the content of all those press conferences.
I did a little research, and it seems that
the content naturally entered her mind as she was formulating her response over
and over again so that she could properly answer the question in her own words.
It seems that she memorized it in a very natural way.

When being asked a question, she looked
into the eyes of the questioner, and when speaking, she looked to the right and
left of each reporter. She gave a "smiley face" to the reporters who
asked her questions, and the reporters couldn't help but smile as well.
Her attitude of looking reporters in the
eyes, listening to their questions, and speaking with humor is actually the
very image of His Majesty. This time, too, she was taught by His Majesty.

The Internet was full of praise for Aiko's
gracious and conciliatory manner and words at the press conference.
“I'm sure your parents are thrilled. Thank
you for raising such a wonderful young lady.”
“Princess Aiko is the right person to be
the next emperor of Japan.”
“The princess from the Akishino family, I
would like to have them hear these words of gratitude to her parents and the
people around her. I am only anxious for the imperial lineage to be transferred
to the Akishino family."
